mystification replied to your post:

Yeah the world is already full of fucked up people and sicknesses and rapists… It doesn’t need misandrists but if you’re making a post about what I said then you’re obliviously quite touchy and sensitive about it so maybe toughen the fuck up

And those fucked up people and rapists are mostly men lol good lord I am not about to drag a 15 year old this is your lucky day

Anonymous said: My dad died of a heroin od when I was little and now I feel like whenever I argue with people that don't believe addiction is a mental illness, his death weakens my argument bc I've been personally affected by it? Idk if this makes sense but how do I stop it, do I just never mention the circumstances surrounding his death?

politicalsexkitten:

I don’t understand why people think that being personally affected by something weakens an argument. Like I get the whole “appeal to emotion” fallacy in debate but most people don’t know shit about fallacies and they use your personal experience as a crutch or scapegoat

"You’re only voting for Obama cause he’s black and you’re black"

"You defend women cause you’re a woman"

"You only care about breast cancer cause it runs in your family!"

Like these are such bullshit reasons. Your personal experience can give you a different understanding and perspective other people don’t have.

You don’t need to be gay to support same-sex marriage. Oh wait, I advocate for animal rights. Does that make me an animal? Like that logic is such shit like you don’t need to be distant from something to advocate for it.

Don’t be ashamed or feel bad about bringing it up in arguments. Mental illness is a problem. Addiction is something that needs to be rehabilitated and not just a power of will. I can’t will myself to stop being depressed. Someone can’t will themselves to stop having OCD. Someone can’t will themselves to not have cancer so why would they treat mental illness and addiction any differently?

I’m sorry you have to deal with such assholes. Use their own logic against them. Ask them questions like “do you support _____?”, and if they say yes then ask “wait, but you’re not _______” and watch it backfire.
